Join us on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 11:30AM to 1:00PM as we celebrate the Lunar New Year. Come learn about this culturally significant holiday and partake in festivities for the Year of the Rabbit. Jim Cheng, Director of the C.V. Starr East Asian Library at Columbia University, will lead an engaging discussion.
Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean communities, among others. The New Year celebration is usually celebrated for multiple days. The holiday falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice. In 2023, Lunar New Year begins on January 22, and this is the year of the Rabbit, specifically, Water Rabbit. The sign of Rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture. 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope.
This event is being hosted by Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s API Employee Resource Group (ERG) in collaboration with Columbia University Asian Faculty Association.
All Columbia affiliates are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.
