Mae Ngai Wins Bancroft Prize

Mae Ngai, Lung Family Professor of Asian American Studies, professor of history, and Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race, has received the Bancroft Prize for her book, The Chinese Question: The Gold Rushes and Global Politics. The book was praised by the jury as “an extraordinary book” that “brilliantly shows us how much of the white Anglo-American world came to view the Chinese as a racially unassimilable and threatening people”. The book is not only the winner of the 2022 Bancroft Prize but also the finalist for the 2022 Los Angeles Times Book Prize.Read MoreAbout the Book
